Legendary Hollywood actor Patrick Stewart, known for his roles in franchises like ‘X-Men’ and ‘Star Trek’, passed away in his Los Angeles home after a brief battle with Alzheimer’s and Lewy body dementia. He was 86.
As we mourn the death of Stewart, let’s look at some of his best films which you can add to your watchlist:
One of his notable roles, Stewart reprises the role of Professor Charles Xavier, aka Professor X, who is a telepath shown as the founder of the X-Men army, who fight against enemies to protect the world.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard, commanding officer of the USS Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E, is the role played by Stewart in the film, making the character a household name. He is seen as a great leader known for his diplomacy, intelligence, and moral convictions.
First introduced in the original 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' (1987–1994) TV series, he also went on to play the role when the show was later adapted into feature films.
Stewart returns to his fictional world once again, playing the role of Professor X, but this time as a weak and elderly man who is being saved by Wolverine (played by Hugh Jackman).
The character was more of an emotional take on the superhero genre, exploring ageing, mortality, family, and the consequences of a lifetime of battles.
Stewart takes on the role of Darcy Banker, who is a neo-Nazi group leader who runs the venue where a struggling punk band gets trapped after witnessing a murder. In this Jeremy Saulnier-directed film, he plays the antagonist, making it a cold, gripping horror-thriller for a Saturday night.
Directed by renowned David Hugh Jones, the film is an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ 1843 novella of the same name. Stewart takes the reins as the lead character, Ebenezer Scrooge, a cold-hearted businessman who despises Christmas but later changes his mind when he is visited by the ghost of his former business partner and three spirits representing Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come on Christmas Eve.
When we look at his filmography, Patrick Stewart can be seen mostly in films that are based on supernatural characters, fiction, fantasy, and futuristic roles. But alongside that, he has also done some exceptional roles in 'Coda' (2019), 'Match' (2014), the TV series 'Blunt Talk' (2015), among others.
He has also given voice roles in animated series like 'American Dad', 'Family Guy', 'The Emoji Movie', among others.
Stewart’s last project is the upcoming Marvel action film, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, as Professor Charles Xavier. The film is set to be released on December 17 in India and December 18 in the US.
